Finally I have spent some time creating a background image for the site. I'm SUPER happy with how it turned out to look on the site :)
Now it really has reached a point visually too where I am happy with how everything looks. All the easter eggs I have wanted to write for the site are done, the styling and images are all done, now it's just on to the biggest task of them all
CONTENT
I am thinking of adding some other stuff than just trying to update once a week with a random idea, but I am not sure yet how I'll shape it exactly. I'll probably start including more music stuff that I enjoy (expect some write-ups on some of my vinyl collection :) ), and maybe even creating a few mini-games for on here, it seems like a lot of fun to write some new ones, it's been ages since I last made a small game!
Anyway, all that to say, more is to come, I'm really enjoying this experience :)
I spent the majority of the weekend tinkering with the site again. I have managed to write several of the easter eggs and visual glitches that I planned for the site to have. They're generally RNG generated, so it might take a while to find them all if you are in anyway enclined to find them all, but I did set the timings generous enough that just a bit of browsing around should generally trigger them without too much time taken.
My favourite addition though is something I've enjoyed creating over the past few years, as is probably quite clear by how frequently I mention it here across the pages, I have developed quite a fondness for both the website marumori.io and it's adorable mascot Maru.
Being an active part of their discord server (it's been the only server I have kept a discord for), I have created around 50 or so fanarts of their mascot in various variations. I thought it quite fun to include them here in the bottom-right corner.
Of course that's not the only thing added, and I do hope you encounter (and enjoy) some of the easter eggs I've added, it's been a lot of fun getting it all working, I'm really enjoying tinkering with this site. Though I'm sure I'll just keep adding to it until it's a monstrosity that nobody wants to access anymore, but isn't that part of the charm of neocities :p
Anyways, this concludes my short update, hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks for reading up to here :)
Today was a productive day for my site. I managed to launch the Gallery feature with a first selection of some of my drawings from my sketch book, as well as finally remembering to add a link to the short Japanese visual novel I wrote as a fan product for Maru, the loveable mascot of the Japanese language learning site marumori.io
With this I consider the basic functionality of the site to be complete, I have all the small things I wanted my website to have now, it's mostly content that will probably be written now (so this blog and art to my art gallery when I remember to look for more pictures).
That doesn't mean that I won't write any updates to the site as I still have some fun things planned for small easter eggs and some interactive elements, but they are a bit more challenging for me with my current coding ability and I'd need to look up how to achieve them, so it might be quite a while before they get integrated :p
In the meantime my main goal is to now start exploring all the other wonderful little hand-crafted sites people have made, both as a way to get inspiration for my own, and just to bask in the wonderful weirdness that is human creativity.
Anyways, hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for reading :)
Today British Singer/Songwriter Raye released a new music video titled "Click Clack Symphony" featuring Hans Zimmer. I was intrigued by the collaboration, knowing of Raye by reputation but never really having listened to her music before.
The song in general is already very good, I quite enjoyed listening to it, but there is one quote that has stuck with me all day:
"The cold never lasts, my darling, it just teaches the heart how to burn" - Raye, 2026
It is quite an impactful quote, and I do believe that it is one that at least I needed to hear. I know of some other friends going through dark times at this moment that I hope to subtly refer to this song, if just for that single line right at the end.
It might seem silly to attach such importance to a single quote in a song, but I find that often these types of oneliners do an interesting job in shaping ones worldview. I thought it apt to share three more quotes with you that carry great importance to me.
"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'" - Fred Rogers, 1983
There's not a lot to add here, I think it's a very important quote as it does help you keep your mind in check and realize that people are by their very nature kind and helping.
"It was never really a battle for me to win, it was an eternal dance, and like a dance, the more rigid I became, the harder it got… I learned to relax, and I learned to soften, and that dance got easier." - Ren, 2022
To say that the song "Hi Ren" has had an impact on me would be an understatement. I can say no more than to go watch the video, it's great.
"Never be cruel, never be cowardly… Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind." - Twelfth Doctor (Doctor Who), 2017
For nearing on 10 years now it's been the one quote I have strived to live by. If there is one thing we all should strive to do it's leaving this world just that tiny bit kinder once we leave than we found it when we arrived.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and if you do end up reading this, thank you so much :)
Hi there! Welcome to my blog's very first post :)
There are just a few avenues I will probably cover here, most of the time I will probably either be talking about aspects of my Japanese Language Learning Journey or otherwise some userscripts I write.
But I am also just going to post some stuff about completely random topics over here probably. I am setting a personal goal of updating this blog with a new post at least once per week, so there might be weeks that I just end up talking about the most off-topic themes possible just to fulfill my personal goal. If you're here for it, welcome :) If you'd rather just skip my ramblings I've tried to include a tags feature — you can always filter by tags to only see stuff that interests you!
Let the rambling blog journey start :p
